Rare first edition of this adventurous book on the life on the American continent and encounters with the native Indians, from Patagonia till Canada and the Wild West, including many illustrations of ancient Peruvian and Mexican temples. The book has been partly adapted from Thomas Mayne-Reid's novel The Scalp Hunter and augmented with stories from newspapers, and has appeared as part 3 of the second series of the Neue Jugend- und Hausbibliothek, intended for a broad audience, both young and old. The work was reprinted in 1858, 1863 and 1875.

Good copy.- (Re-cased, spine slightly discoloured, boards worn, corners somewhat bumped, last quire strengthened, library stamp on title-page; lacks half-title?).
