Fine ''Sammelband'' of two works by Francis Bacon (1561-1626), British philosopher, scientist and politician.
Ad 1: A collection of essays of which the Elsevier 1662 edition was entirely based, copying each page, on this third edition of Franciscus Hackius.
Ad 2: First Latin and first Elsevier edition of a collection of essays on scientific experiments, observations and speculations on a wide range of subjects. The last part Novus Atlas, New Atlantis, with a preface by William Rawley, is an utopian-philosophical novel showing the design of an institute devoted to the interpretation of nature for the benefit of mankind.
