The trading of Prussia with China

AUSFÜHRLICHE NACHRICHT VON DER OCTROYRTEN KÖNIGLICH PREUßICHEN ASIATISCHEN COMPAGNIE IN EMDEN NACH CANTON IN CHINA.

Emden, Brantgums Schrifften, 1751. 4to. Without wrappers. 14 pp.

Very rare pamphlet with the rules and regulations of the Royal Prussian Asiatic Trading Company. This trading company was founded in 1750 in Emden, in the province East Friesland, Germany, by a number of German and Dutch merchants and financiers, a.o the burgomaster of Emden, De Pottere. The company was granted a charter by King Frederick II of Prussia in 1751 for a monopoly of trade between Prussia and China. The first ship the 'König von Preussen' sailed on 1752 from Emden under Captain Carl Glaitschke, and arrived at Canton in September that year. The establishment of the Prussian trading company caused a stir amongst the other overseas trading countries. This Prussian venture, however was short-lived: it lasted until 1756.
Fine copy.
