Warnars, P. den Hengst, 1772-1775. 2 works in 1 vol. 4to. Contemporary marbled calf, spine ribbed and richly gilt, with red title-label, red mottled edges. With fine engraved allegorical frontispiece by G. Warnars and P. den Hengst to the first work, engraved emblematic vignette on 2 titles by N. van der Meer, 4 folding engraved views of the old theatre in the first work, and 5 folding engraved views of the new theatre in the second work, engraved by Warnars and Van den Hengst after designs by N. van der Meer, including one by S. Fokke. (10), 80, (12); (6), 56 pp. Fine large-paper copies of both the descriptions of the old Amsterdam theatre at the Keizersgracht, which burned down in 1772, and of the new Amsterdam theatre, which was built on the Leidseplein and finished in 1775. The large engraved plates show not only outside views of both theatres, but also inside views of the stages, the old and the new one after the latest style in architecture. The text of the first work is ascribed to J. Fokke, and both works are also ascribed to Myndert de Boer, who contributed long poems to both works. Good copy with the bookplate of W. Kreeft, and old book-labels of W.K. Hartkamp on verso of frontispiece and first title.- (Few sl. marginal staining and thumbing).
