Paris, Estienne Groulleau, 1548. Folio. 18th century marbled calf, spine ribbed and richly gilt. With numerous large white woodcut initials with Janot's thistle, 2 large black initials, each repeated, and 14 woodcuts within 2- or 4-part woodcut borders in text. (5), 150 lvs.

The third folio edition of the first book, unfortunately lacking the title-page. The colophon reads: "imprimé à Paris par Estienne Groulleau, pour luy, Ian Longis, & Vincent Sertenas, Libraires", and is dated 1548. All initials are filled in, mostly with Janot's white alphabet, especially designed for the Amadis, and include 2 fine large black ones, both present twice, one a large T against a field of fleurs-de-lys, and the other with a seated God the Father holding a globe.
Good copy, with the bookplate of Charles Moncorgé.- (Binding professionally restored, with new matching backcover; some sl. traces of use).
STC French p. 12; this ed. not in Adams Vaganay, Amadis en Français, Livre I, B Harvard, French, 18 (Book 1, printed for Longis); Index Aureliensis 104244.
