Thoroughly revised edition, not only of the French part, but also of the Dutch part, which now is put in the Siegenbeek-spelling, of a very popular French grammar and syntax for use at Dutch schools. Agron introduced a new method to teach the French language starting from the children's own, Dutch language. A grammar-rule first is extensively explained in Dutch, including the differences in the corresponding French rules when present, after which a large number of exercises are given to translate from the Dutch into the French, with lists of words to be used, and probably also to be learned by heart. Thus, one by one, all grammar- and syntax-rules are treated, and applied in Dutch-French exercises. At the end a list of French proverbs and typical expressions is given, also followed by exercises to use them in.
Antoine Nicolas Agron, a member of the Dutch Wallonian church, was from 1796-1799 rector of the Latin School and rector of a French boarding-school in Elburg. His "Verzameling van Opstellen" was first published in 1794, and was republished and revised through most of the 19th century.
