First Danish edition of Aesop's fables, translated from the German, and illustrated with newly cut woodcuts. The fables are translated into prose, and each fable has not only a short explanation at the end, but also an extensive contemporary moral added to it, mostly ending with a few lines in verse, probably for the children to learn by heart. The woodcut illustrations were probably made by the publisher, who also made the woodcuts and woodcut vignettes for a popular Reynard edition, also published by Glasing in the same year, 1747. They probably were based on the German woodcut series by Virgil Solis, but here they have quite a different and rather primitive but attractive style of their own. The book is printed in Gothic type, and nicely adorned throughout with woodcut head- and tail-pieces, including decorative woodcuts of male figures, a man buying from a pedlar, a little group of lancers, a garden, a view of Copenhagen, etc.

Good copy.- (Binding sl. rubbed; sl. traces of use).
No Danish edition in Fabula Docet, Brunet, or elsewhere found recorded.
