Rare early edition, printed on thick greyish paper. Here  with the printer's device on title instead of the usual woodcut of a classroom. The printer's firm was called "In the Black Hen". On verso title a large single cock, with the following verse  underneath: "De Haan verkondight 's Heeren Dagh, Heeft by sijn Huyzgesin ontsagh: Hij roept een yeder vroegh aen 't werk, En Sondaeghs neerstigh in de Kerck" (The cock announces the Lord's day, He is respected in his home: He calls everyone early to work, And on Sunday's promptly to the church). The alphabet is printed in 8 different lettertypes, and a whole page is devoted  to the vocals and spelling exercises.

Good copy.- (Few old and fading ink-marks in the margin).
