Rare "Hane-Boek" for the Wallonian Church, although without the cock and with its contents doubled. The woodcut on title shows the teacher at the left with a beard and a sort of bishop's mitre sitting high in a closed pulpit, a group of children standing before him, others sitting on benches at the right and around a table at the back. After the alphabets and the spelling exercises of one to six and seven syllable words, the first prayer, on page 13-14, is the Lord's Prayer, followed by a prayer to strenghten faith, the symbols of the apostles, the Ten Commandments, morning prayers, and prayers before lessons and before meals. From page 22 onwards first a short catechism and then songs and prayers in verse are given, ending with ten sonnets on religious subjects, probably meant for the children to learn by heart. Although the present A B book in French is stated to be already in its 13th edition, not a single copy of any edition could be traced.
