Original edition, printed on thick greyish paper, of an attractive new edition with the large woodcut of a single cock printed in red. The woodcut of a classroom on title again is a new variant, showing the teacher on a chair at a desk, one pupil standing on a stool before it, and the rest of the pupils sitting in the background, while on the far wall a window is seen, with a slate and a picture hanging on either side, and a large chest of drawers with little china on top.
The alphabet is printed in 6 different types. The first reading exercises are printed in a larger type, the letters set widely apart. The contents are the traditional ones with some variations. The texts on Baptism and Communion are not present, instead there is a schoolprayer. The "Christian A B C" at the end is set to a popular tune.
